The logo of the University of Teramo
The symbol of the University of Teramo
is a cube. A reproduction of the ancient and modern town of Teramo is represented in two of its faces.
The symbol is linked to the "Civitas Aprutiensis" that for centuries has geographically,
ethnically, administratively and culturally identified the territory of Teramo.
A reality that is reproduced and summarized in the central panel of Jacobello
del Fiore's polyptych preserved in the Cathedral of Teramo. The modern town can
be associated to the "terra vetus" by Jacobello.
The "Y" found in the cube
which divides and joins both them is a graphic element characteristic of
Jacobello's work, but it has also been used to synthesize the town of Teramo
that has always been surrounded and circumscribed by two merging rivers which,
furthermore, gave name to the town of Teramo according to the etymon
"interamnia". The cube, a symmetrical geometric figure and also a symbol that
simplifies and introduces innovations into a habitual academic setting, is
suitable in representing an athenaeum as young as the University of Teramo.
