| The
University of Teramo: History |
| |
|
|
|
|
|
The University of Teramo was established in 1993, detached from
the University of Chieti in a moment of strong tension between
supporters of “autonomy” and those wanting to maintain
the traditional structure.
In the past 10 years, the University of Teramo has reached important
goals and obtained recognition, proving that the difficult decisions
made in the beginning have given way to excellent results.
Today,
our University boasts a very prestigious position: over 10.000
students are enrolled, with a 30% growth rate since 1995.
| |
Two new Faculties have been added to the three set up in 1993 with 18 first and
second-level degree courses, together with a variety of specialization, post-graduate
courses and Master’s.
There are 10 departments and a staff of 198 professors and researches, together
with 178 members of technical, administrative and library employees.
Three of our faculties evaluated by Censis, in its traditional place-list of
Universities, were placed among the first ten in Italy:
|
Fifth place for the Law Faculty, Political Science fourth and Veterinarian
Medicine
seventh.
The Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Communication Sciences were not
taken into consideration by the evaluation because only recently established.
The development strategy of our University focuses on our two major study areas:
Law-Politics-Communication on one hand, and Agricultural-Biological-Veterinarian
studies on the other.
|
|
These
two core-areas have been strengthened through our degree, post-graduate,
Master’s and PhD study system.
This system has also strengthened our university profile, in line with Campus
One, which aims at conforming University studies, linking them directly to the
job market.
The Law-Politics-Communication sector of the University of Teramo, characterized
by the Faculties of Law, Political Science and Communication Science was ranked
among the top 7 of the country according to a national survey conducted by the
Public Administration Department and Formez, thanks to the quality of the degree
and specialization courses offered which privilege subjects in the field of Public
Administration.
|
 |
The
agricultural-biological-veterinarian sector has become a strong
scientific point of reference for the whole Region, but also
for all of central Italy and
the Adriatic Coast.
This sector has its roots in the Faculty of Veterinary-Medicine, which was strengthened
in 1998 by the foundation of the Faculty of Agriculture.
5 Degree Courses are offered: Veterinarian Medicine, Animal Protection and Well-being,
Food Science and Technology, Viticulture and Enology, Biotechnology. |
|
| As
regards Biotechnology, we would like to stress that our research
group has,
for years, been carrying out studies in “new frontiers” Science,
offering a Master’s in Reproductive Biotechnology, the only one in Europe
after Nottingham.
The University of Teramo has been autonomously investing great sums in research
areas not as yet consolidated on national or international levels, which can
lead to discoveries in and innovation of scientific research.
Our University also boasts advanced communication technology such as a multimedia
lab for television and radio production and a linguistic center which places
the University of Teramo at the heart of the international scene, with a wide
array of exchange programs and collaboration projects with countries all over
the world.
