The University of Teramo welcomes applications from international students in both Italian-taught and English-taught degree programmes.

 

Who can apply directly

EU citizens and non-EU citizens already holding a valid residence permit in Italy may apply directly to their chosen degree programme. After a preliminary evaluation of admission requirements carried out by the International Welcome Office, eligible candidates proceed to language proficiency testing (if required) and final enrolment.

 

Non-EU students residing abroad

Non-EU students residing outside Italy must submit a pre-enrolment application through the Universitaly portal and apply for a student visa (type D – national) at the Italian diplomatic representation in their country.

The process consists of four steps:

  1. Preliminary evaluation of documents by the course coordinator
  2. Notification of eligibility (and pre-acceptance letter if required for the visa)
  3. Pre-enrolment on UNIVERSITALY and visa request
  4. Final enrolment at UniTe via the Esse3 platform

Language requirements

All programmes taught in Italian require at least a B2 level of Italian (CEFR). Programmes taught in English require at least a B2 level of English (CEFR), certified by a recognised qualification or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter.

 

Academic requirements

Access to Bachelor's and single-cycle programmes requires a minimum of 12 years of prior education. Access to Master's programmes requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

 

 
+ - General Requirements

To be admitted to a degree programme at the University of Teramo, all international students must meet the following academic and language requirements.

 

Years of prior education

Level of study Minimum education required Bachelor's and single-cycle degree programmes 12 years of prior schooling Master's degree programmes Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) + 12 years of schooling

If the national school system contemplates less than 12 years, the applicant must provide evidence of one of the following: completion of 1–2 years of academic studies (with transcript of records); a post-secondary qualification from a non-university institution; or a Foundation Course certificate issued by an Italian university.

 

Italian language requirement (for programmes taught in Italian)

A minimum level of B2 (CEFR) in Italian is required and must be certified by the date of enrolment.

The following internationally recognised certificates are accepted: PLIDA, CILS, CELI, Certit, Cecol.

Students who do not hold one of the above certificates must sit and pass an Italian language proficiency test administered by the University of Teramo. Test dates and procedures are published on the webpage of the relevant degree programme.

For ministerial exemptions, refer to the UNIVERSITALY website.

 

English language requirement (for programmes taught in English)

A minimum level of B2 (CEFR) in English is required and must be certified by the date of enrolment.

Accepted certifications: Cambridge English Language Assessment, City and Guilds (Pitman), Edexcel/Pearson, IELTS, TOEFL, ETS, TCL, LanguageCert.

The following students are exempt from submitting a language certificate:

  • native English speakers;
  • students who obtained their qualifying diploma or degree in English — in this case, an English Proficiency Letter or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) document issued by the awarding institution is required.

 

 
+ - Admission procedure for EU students and non‑EU students with residence permit in Italy

EU citizens and non‑EU citizens residing in Italy with a valid residence permit may apply directly to the University of Teramo. The Single‑Cycle Degree in Veterinary Medicine follows a specific national procedure.

Admission steps:

  1. Preliminary evaluation The international welcome service verifies compliance with admission requirements. Referent: internationalwelcome@unite.it

  2. Language proficiency test (if required) Italian or English proficiency must be demonstrated according to programme rules.

  3. Enrolment Applicants may enrol online through the website segreteriaonline.unite.it

 
+ - Admission procedure for non‑EU students residing abroad

 

Non‑EU students residing abroad must follow a structured process:

 

Step 1 – Preliminary evaluation

Applicants must email the required documents to the Course Coordinator:

  • Passport

  • High school diploma (and Bachelor’s degree for Master’s programmes)

  • Transcript of records

  • English certificate or Medium of Instruction

  • Syllabus (for Master’s programmes)

  • Additional documents as required by each programme

Step 2 – Notification

Applicants receive an email confirming eligibility or non‑eligibility. A Letter of Pre‑acceptance may be issued if required by the Embassy.

For Bachelor’s and single‑cycle programmes, a pre‑assessment test is required but not mandatory before enrolment. For Master’s programmes, a positive pre‑assessment test is mandatory.

 

Step 3 – Pre‑enrolment on Universitaly and visa request

Applicants must:

  • Register on the Universitaly portal

  • Complete the pre‑enrolment application

  • Wait for University validation

  • Apply for a D‑type national study visa

  • Provide additional documents required by the Embassy

Approval of the pre‑enrolment application does not guarantee visa issuance and does not constitute enrolment.

 

Step 4 – Visa requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Sufficient financial means

  • Funds for repatriation

  • Suitable accommodation

  • Adequate health insurance

Fingerprint collection is mandatory for national visas from 11 January 2025.

 

Step 5 – Enrolment at the University of Teramo

After obtaining the visa, students must:

  • Register on ESSE3

  • Activate university credentials

  • Complete enrolment

  • Pay fees within deadlines

The University confirms enrolment on Universitaly. If enrolment is not completed by 31 January 2026, the visa will be revoked.
