RESEARCH ACTIVITY

My research programme centres on affective immunology — the bidirectional relationship between emotional and psychosocial states and immune function. Over more than 25 years of translational research in inflammation, autoimmunity and psychoneuroimmunology, I have worked across both innate and adaptive immunity, with a particular focus on the annexin A1/formyl peptide receptor system and, more recently, on Immuno-moodulin (Imood/TDRP), a T cell-derived factor I discovered linking immune activation to anxiety- and mood-related behaviour. I am the sole inventor of US Patent US12,466,876 B2 (TDRP antibodies, granted November 2025; QMUL as assignee), and have led translational and industry-facing work on this target through licensing to biotech partners.

My work has been supported by over £2 million in UK research funding (MRC, British Heart Foundation, Arthritis Research UK, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and industry consultancy), and I have authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, over 60% as first or last author.
