JULY 2005: Master Degree in “Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies” at Chieti University (Italy), with the mark of 110/110. Degree thesis about: “PROTEOMIC INVESTIGATIONS FOR THE IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OFMOLECULAR BIOMARKERS IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS”.

 

2005-2008: Ph.D. Student in "Functional Neuroimaging: from cells to systems" in the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, Biomedical Sciences Department, Proteomics and Analytical Biochemistry Laboratory at the Ce.S.I., University Foundation. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Dr Pieragostino obtained her master’s degree in June 2005, in the first useful session with 110/110 remark. In March 2009 she got the PhD title, discussing a thesis on Proteomics Strategies for Biomarkers Research in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and publishing milestone papers about key ex-vivo protein alteration in sera and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in MS [PMID: 17006926, PMID: 19666151]. In 2010 she won a fellowship funded by Italian MS Foundation, which lead to important collaborations and publications in the comprehension of such disease (PMID: 21757039, PMID: 23319365, PMID: 25362470, PMID: 25690641). The research of MS Biomarker leads her to study easily accessible bio-fluids focusing on tears, a window on the nervous system [PMID: 25488355,]. Thanks to the collaboration with the ophthalmologists, she acquire a huge expertise in proteomic studies of tears[PMID: 23580065, PMID: 22124706, PMID: 31426571, PMID: 30871169].From the whole biological fluids she started the exploring of Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) proteomics content, obtaining pioneering results in the discovery of a molecular cross-talk between tears and CSF (PMID: 31170500). In this context a new protocol for proteomics investigation of EVs has been developed and used for many fields of interest [PMID: 31426571, PMID: 31827511, PMID: 29449691]. These results generated an important echo in the scientific panorama, leading Dr Pieragostino to attend in many international conferences. The latest hit is the European project “PMSMatTrain” funded in H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018. The project aims to develop a Novel Biomaterial-based Device for the Treatment of Progressive MS by training of 15 MARIE-CURIE PhD students. In the last two years she started in monitoring COVID pandemia and she applied a new IgG quantitative test from Dried Blood spot specimens, by monitoring COVID resolved natural infection patient and vaccinated ones. The first data are published [PMID: 34440239] and other paper in preparation.
