The Erasmus Programmes were started in our university in 1994 in order to improve the co-operation with universities from all over Europe, to support students and teaching staff mobility, and to boost the development of joint programmes (both educational and professional) and courses.
Within the Erasmus programme (mainly Study), thousands of foreign (incoming) students have attended our university so far. Teramo organises an Erasmus Welcome Day for them each semester. During the event students receive useful information about academic life and all the services offered by the University. It is also an opportunity to meet the Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, the Erasmus staff, and members of the ESN (Erasmus Student Network).
Incoming students enjoy a wide range of services such as guidance and tutoring, info and reception, Italian language courses (provided by the language centre), access to canteens, cafeterias, libraries, sporting facilities (CUS), cultural centres, technological facilities and more.

VISA

European citizens may enter Italy with a passport or ID card and are entitled to stay for study or work as long as like. You are however required to register with the Questura (police station - Polizia di Stato) in order to obtain residence and therefore you should ensure that you have all the documents requested for this procedure before you leave your home country.

Non European Citizens are required to apply for a study visa prior to leaving. Applications should be made at your nearest Italian Embassy or Consulate. Always start these procedures well in advance of your planned visit to Italy. These procedures are subject to change so it is worthwhile telephoning the embassy or checking the website for information before going personally to the visa office (link: vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en). If it is required, please send email to the Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali (International Relations office) at gcacciatore@unite.it, asking for a letter of admission to be posted to your home address.

Residence Permit

European citizens may reside in Italy for three months without a Residence Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) from the Italian Police, but they have to register at the Police Station (Dichiarazione di Presenza).

If you are staying in Teramo for longer than three consecutive months, you have to register at the City Hall of your residence district in Teramo(Iscrizione Anagrafica). should report your presence on Italian territory to the local Police autorities filling in a specific form.

Non European citizens are required to apply for a residence permit within 8 working days since their arrival in Italy. Applications can be submitted to Italian Post Offices (Sportello Amico), Patronages and Municipalities.

Health insurance form
All Erasmus students are requested to have appropriate health insurance. EU citizens must travel to Italy with their European Health Insurance Card. The European Health Insurance Card, replacing paper forms such as the E111 or E106, gives access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
Students coming from non-EU countries are strongly recommended to verify if there are any agreements between their country's National Health Service and the Italian one; in case there is none, they must get hold of an insurance policy to be translated and certified by the Italian Diplomatic Representative abroad.

Please note that it is absolutely necessary to register as Erasmus student on your arrival in Teramo (Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali - International Relations office) to be officially registered and in order to activate your registration number (matricola). Using your registration number, you can enrol in the exams.

• Two passport-size photos
• Passport or Identity Card
• Statement from home university
• Application form and Learning agreement
• Tax code (codice fiscale)

Please note that the Tax code (codice fiscale) is needed to sign any contract (e.g., to rent a room, to open a bank account or to get a sim card for mobile phones) and to get your registration number (matricola).

Before leaving, don't forget to contact your tutor (the Erasmus coordinator of the Faculty you registered to) and bring him/her your Transcript of records in order to have it signed and sent to the Institutional coordinator. After that, you will have to visit the International Relations Office in order to collect:

• your final Transcript of records (signed by both the Faculty coordinator and the Institutional coordinator);
• your Certificate of Attendance (as well as other possible documents).

It is run by students and offers help for any practical aspects concerning life in Teramo and to make their stay at the University of Teramo as fruitful and pleasant as possible.

Buddy System "Students Helping Students” www.unite.it/UniTE/Progetto_Buddy_System

The University Language Centre, founded in December 1999 runs language courses by means of lessons and self study to be carried out in the multimedia linguistic lab. For Erasmus incoming students, the University Language Centre organizes Italian language courses free of charge. 
Students who attend all the requested hours and pass the final test can obtain an attendance certificate with the ECTS credits achieved.

A.D.S.U. is the regional authority in charge of services concerning university students' right to study. It promotes the essential services aiming at easing access to university studies (meals, accommodation, transportation, cultural and recreational activities). Incoming students can obtain the same benefits as those granted to students enrolled in the University of Teramo by applying to A.D.S.U.
